“So How’s the Weather Down There?”

Updated: June 7, 2026

Ask a Delhiite about the weather and you’ll get a response that sits somewhere between a lament and a grudge. Climate change has turned what was once a four-season city into something closer to a three-season penance with brief windows of reprieve.

Air-conditioners run like life-support machines. Affluent households keep four or five cars each; even middle-class families have a couple.

The green canopy known as The Ridge — a strip of ancient forest that once shielded the city from the worst of its summers the way a parasol shields a Victorian lady — has been shrinking like a wool jumper in a hot wash.

And the winters, once Delhi’s joy and pride, are now something people leave ahead of to avoid respiratory problems.

Read on to find what each season holds, so you can pack accordingly — or pick your dates wisely.
