Why You SHOULD Come to Delhi

Updated: June 10, 2026

After every chapter you've just read, I wouldn't blame you for asking, "Is it even worth visiting Delhi?"

Yes! Resoundingly.

Once you've learnt Delhi's quirks, found its groove, and know how to side-step the nonsense, you can have a genuinely great time here — and find pockets of peace you'd never expect in a city this loud.

A solitary visitor seated at the far end of a long colonnade of carved stone pillars, light falling across the worn floor.

This is a city steeped in history going back thousands of years. Dynasties rose and fell, and each one brought its own religion, language, food, and architecture — yet Delhi held its title as capital for the better part of a millennium. A thousand years of art, music, poetry, and cooking, all piled on top of each other.

There's far too much to cover, so I won't pretend that I possibly could. Instead, here are the places where I'd take a friend visiting Delhi for the first time. These are my picks, which means a fair chunk of Delhi will disagree with them — and that's Delhi too. Passionately welcoming and disagreeing in the same breath.

Treat this last chapter as a starting point -- for the starting point of your great Indian adventure. The rest is yours to discover.
