I am not going to sugarcoat this: Delhi has a reputation, even within India. Some of it is earned, some of it is media-fuelled, and some of it is simply the statistical inevitability of a mega-city with 30-odd million people crammed into a space that was designed for far fewer.

The silver lining is that millions of tourists visit Delhi every year and leave with nothing worse than a sunburn or an upset stomach, and at worst a lighter wallet.

But that remaining outlier can be harrowing. This section exists to help you avoid it.
