Swiggy & Zomato, these two apps are to Delhi’s food scene what oxygen is to breathing: technically you could manage without them, but why on Earth would you? Between them, they deliver from roughly 30,000 restaurants across the city. They’re fast, they offer discounts with the generosity of a grandmother at a wedding, and they’re convenient in the way that only an app connected to an army of delivery riders on motorcycles can be.
The caveats are minor but worth noting. Food packaging from the more “economical” restaurants can arrive in a state suggesting the container fought a small war en route — oily, damp, and sealed with enough scotch tape to gift-wrap a small car. Order from the better-rated places and you’ll avoid most of this.
A side-note: Zomato is actually older than DoorDash, though it didn’t start as a delivery service. Swiggy launched around the same time DoorDash did. The student has outrun the teacher, at least on this side of the planet.
